USC’s Elite Eight Inspires Community Pride

USC
Dear Neighbors,

On April 30, the LA City Council held a special presentation to recognize the USC Women’s Basketball team for their achievement in reaching the 2024 NCAA Women’s Elite Eight. This marked the first time since 1994 that the Women of Troy attained this level of success in the March tournament.

Many of us remember iconic USC legends such as the GOAT Cheryl Miller, Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, Tina Thompson, and many others. I was delighted to recognize the next generation of trailblazing athletes like JuJu Watkins, who are now carving their place in history.

In Council District 9, where a significant portion of the population is under 18, it is crucial for girls of color to see themselves in standout leaders like the USC Women’s Basketball team, to dream fearlessly, and to aspire to greatness in all aspects of life.

Thank you for a memorable season and for the excitement you ignited across Los Angeles and beyond! Your dedication, brilliance, and the magic you brought to every game this season made us all proud. Congratulations to the historic USC Women’s Basketball team.

Fight on!
